In Chinese, a bicycle has several different names.

The most formal term is “自行车” (zìxíngchē), which literally means a vehicle powered by pedaling.

In Taiwan, people usually call it a “单车” (dānchē); for example, someone might say, “I’m going to ride my bike to buy something.”

In mainland China, almost every city has a bike-sharing service. Users simply scan a QR code, pay according to the duration of their ride, and then return the bike to a designated location within a virtual “geo-fenced” area.
